We are excited to announce that one of Charlotte’s newest, but most popular, events has won an Achievement Award from the National Association of Counties!
Open Streets 704 powered by Blue Cross Blue Shield will be officially recognized at the NACo Achievement Awards Luncheon on July 15th in Nashville, Tennessee.
NACo recognized the huge impact Open Streets 704 has had in just two and a half years. In its fifth event on April 29th, more than 30,000 people walked, rode bikes, played, and met their neighbors on the 4.3 mile route through NoDa, Villa Heights, Belmont, Commonwealth, and Plaza Midwood. That’s in addition to the 60,000 people who have enjoyed the four previous events!
“Open Streets 704 is an amazing opportunity for people to experience their community in a new way,” says Monica Holmes, a Planning Director for the City of Charlotte and part of Open Street 704’s steering committee. “The program has exploded in growth – proving the demand for such a unique, community-building experience. We can’t wait to see what the future holds – more neighborhoods, more fun, and more people enjoying Charlotte!”
