Open Streets events create temporary, linear parks by opening the roads to pedestrian, bicycle, and other “people powered” transportation. Neighbors are encouraged to use the streets for walking, cycling, dancing, playing, and connecting with each other. Open Streets programs in Charlotte-Mecklenburg and around the world have proven to be successful in achieving goals related to recreation, public health, active transportation, and community building.
